Advice for a Successful Move
Moving is an amazing opportunity, it can bring new beginnings and the chance to have a fresh start. However, before you move to the new place you have to prepare properly, and this is why we have created a simple guide to help you get the most out of your moving experience.
1. Organize early
Organizing early is imperative if you want the process to move quickly and swiftly. Try preparing 1-2 months beforehand, and try to make sure that you pack everything, as you don’t want to leave anything behind.
2. Create a moving strategy
You need to know when and how you move your stuff. Either by calling friends or asking a moving company to help, moving can be a difficult task; so do try to create a good strategy in this regard.
Depending on the amount of stuff you have to move, you might need a small truck or an 18-wheeler. Assess your inventory and once that is done make sure that you find the proper transportation method that will be able to move your stuff securely and without any issues.
3. Stay in touch with your movers
It’s important to let the movers know how many heavy pieces you have so that they are prepared. Let them know if anything needs special handling so they come with all the proper tools. Give the movers a head ups before the big day comes so no one is surprised and the process can be handled efficiently and effectively.
4. De-clutter your home
Before you start packing, see what can be thrown away or hold a garage sale. There might be stuff you don’t need, but others might. It’s also a good time to make some money off it as well. What doesn’t sell can be taken to a local Goodwill or Salvation Army. There is no need to pack and move more than you have to.
5. Organize properly
The key behind any moving process is to make sure that you do it efficiently, so try to organize things ahead of time. Keep each room together and label all the boxes. Not only they will be much easier to move and sort, but also unpacking will be much easier as well.
6. Inform people that you have changed your address
Contact everyone that might be affected by your move. Make sure all your friends and family know your new location. Don’t forget to forward your mailing address with the post office so you will receive your mail at your new place. While you mail is still in the forwarding phase, make sure all your bills and other important notices are updated with your new address as well. Don’t forget to update your license within 30 days of your move.
7. Create a moving day kit
A good idea is to create a moving day kit in which you can keep items like medications, prescription glasses, important documents, a change of clothes, toiletries and everything that you might need during the moving process and the first day in your new home.
In the end, it’s all about moving effectively and safely, so try to follow these simple tips if you want to have a good experience. Remember that staying organized is essential if you want the moving process to go smoothly.
